Research Opportunities
As a department we recognize and require that residents
perform all responsibilities throughout the program in a scholarly manner.
Clinical and conference responsibilities
will be performed as scholarly activities. In addition, we will specifically
provide education in how to perform research, provide opportunities for
research and other scholarly projects,
and provide support for resident research. Research and other scholarly
projects are required of all residents entering the residency program on
or after July 1, 2006.
Research and other scholarly projects are defined as
methods development, clinical or basic research/ scholarly projects, literature
surveys or case
reports. Acceptable outcomes of research and other scholarly projects include
platform or poster presentations at a regional or national meeting and/or
manuscript
submission to a peer-reviewed journal. To facilitate this policy, we will
provide didactic lectures, mentors, financial support, guidelines for resident
participation in research and other scholarly projects, research seminars.
