Strategic Priorities - EDUCATION

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine is dedicated to teaching and mentoring students and professionals at all levels to foster the creation, transfer and application of knowledge on Pathophysiology and Human Disease. The department faculty coordinate the teaching of general and organ pathology and offer specialized pathology electives leading to the M.D. degree at the University of Wisconsin Medical School. A doctoral curriculum and research mentoring in Cellular and Molecular Pathology lead to the Ph.D. degree. Advanced programs beyond the doctoral level are offered for medical resident or research fellow training. Coursework and laboratory research experience prepare undergraduate university students for scientific careers, especially Clinical Laboratory Science and other allied health professions. In addition to these formal programs, the faculty engage in the dissemination of knowledge to the public, health care professionals and scientific researchers through public forums and meetings.
