Subhojit Roy receives UW2020: WARF Discovery Initiative Grant
Congratulations to Subhojit Roy who received a 2-year, $330K UW2020 grant to develop a therapeutic tool to treat Alzheimer’s Disease (AD). Specifically, Dr. Roy proposes to manipulate the pathological proteins involved in neurodegenerative disorders using the gene editing tool, CRISPR (Clustered Regulatory Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats). CRISPRs, combined with the enzyme Cas9, will be used to alter genes coding for pathologic proteins in AD, thereby rendering them unable to initiate the disease. Experiments will include developing and validating several procedures, including gene targeting and delivering CRISPR/Cas9 to the brain.
